Christian "Chrissy" Njorodge, 34, was six months pregnant when her fiance and high school sweetheart Chris Scruggs, 32, reportedly shot her in the head before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide at his mother’s Cleveland, Ohio, home on July 28.
Paramedics transported Njorodge to a local hospital. Although she later died, doctors safely delivered her premature daughter, Fox 8 reported.
Mary Scruggs, the shooter’s mother, says she witnessed the murder-suicide. “Chrissy was on her knees, she was yelling and screaming 'he's going to kill me, he's going to kill me'" Mary said. “I said Chris, don't, I told him 'don't kill Chrissy, don't kill her, don't kill Chrissy' and he shot her in the head.”
“He looked at me, put the gun to his head and shot.”
Popular VideoThis young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.
Mary explained that her son was an Air Force veteran who had served three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
The premature baby was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at MetroHealth Medical Center, in Cleveland, Ohio, the hospital where her parents died. Family members told WKYC the baby is doing well.
Mary is happy her granddaughter survived the shooting. "This is a part of both of them, and when I look at the little baby ... I can see my son, and I can see Chrissy,” she said. She told Fox 8 reporters she was worried Chrissy’s family wouldn’t welcome her anymore.
“I know they're hurting as much as I am, but I know there's no way I can tell them I'm sorry, I'm so sorry,” Mary said.
