A man was rescued by Disney’s Magic. Well, sort of.
Frank Jade, 22, who is from the U.S., was a passenger on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas, but he fell overboard off the shore of Cozumel, Mexico, and was later rescued by Disney’s cruise ship, Magic.
The Daily Mail reported that Jade was spotted floating in the ocean by passengers and crew. Magic’s crew lowered a lifeboat and brought Jade on board (video below).
In a statement from Royal Caribbean, spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez said “We are grateful for the other ship's assistance.” She did not elaborate on how or why Jade fell overboard.
Popular VideoThis young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.
Jade was immediately transported to Punta Langosta for medical treatment. Royal Caribbean's blog reported Jade was in stable condition, without serious injuries.
Oasis of the Seas is one of the world’s largest cruise ships, with a capacity of 6,360 people.
The incident has sparked concerns over cruise ship safety. Jim Walker, a maritime attorney who reported on the incident on his Cruise Law News website, said Royal Caribbean should be embarrassed it failed to notice a missing passenger. He also claimed the cruise line has failed to comply with the 2010 Cruise Vessel Safety and Security Act, which “requires installation of automatic man overboard systems.”
The rescue was recorded by David Hearn.
