Here Is How Each State Feels About The Military (Map)

Every year, thousands of people from across the country make the decision to enlist in the armed forces.

Enlistment rates vary across the nation depending on age, gender, ethnic group, and a number of other factors, but one fact remains clear: some states have much higher enlistment rates than others.

Business Insider recently used data from the Department of Defense to create a map showing different enlistment rates across the country. You may or may not be surprised to learn that the South Atlantic region of the United States sends more people to the military than anywhere else. The North Atlantic region, meanwhile, enlists the least.

Check out this first map breaking down enlistment rates by state. Florida, Georgia, and Maine have the highest enlistment rates, with each state signing up more than seven people per 1,000 18-24 year olds:
