Dentist Who Reportedly Killed Cecil The Lion Targeted By Animal Rights Activists

| by Emily Smith

Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer has been bombarded by animal activists ever since he was accused of killing Cecil the lion in early July.

Palmer, who claimed he simply followed the guidance of local guides to meet legal guidelines during his trip to Africa, shot one of Africa’s most famous lions with a bow and arrow. Palmer then skinned and beheaded Cecil on July 6.

Palmer reportedly paid $55,000 for a big game permit and claimed he was unaware that the lion was protected.

Now, Palmer’s office has become a target for the anger of animal activists. Many protestors have dressed as hunters and thrown stuffed animals at Palmer’s office. They have also pinned a sign to his office door.

“You are a coward and a killer! :(” the sign reads.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has suggested that Palmer should be hung for the offense.

“If, as reported, this dentist & guides lured #CeciltheLion out of the park with food so as to shoot him on private property because shooting #CeciltheLion in the park would have been illegal, he needs to be extradited, charged, &, preferably, hanged,” a spokesperson for PETA tweeted.

Emmanuel Fundira, president of the Safari Operations Association of Zimbabwe, confirmed on Tuesday that Palmer is wanted for the death of Cecil.

Many have continued to pay tribute to Cecil on various social media websites, while simultaneously bashing Palmer's dental practice on Yelp. Since the story of Cecil's death went viral, Palmer's Facebook page has been deleted.
