Body Found In Aurora Pond Confirmed As David Puckett

The body of a boy found in a pond in Aurora, Colorado, Jan. 3 has been confirmed as that of 6-year-old David Puckett.

David went missing from his home Dec. 31 and police were notified shortly afterward, KUSA reported.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have to report that we were notified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office that the boy who was discovered in the icy pond in Olympic Park has been positively identified as David Puckett,” a police statement said, according to The Denver Post.

Over 150 personnel from various police forces and other agencies were involved in the search, which lasted days.

“An autopsy was performed today, no traumatic injuries were identified and the cause and manner of death are pending further studies and investigation,” the statement said.

The police’s Crimes Against Children Unit is still involved in the investigation.

Officers were assisted in the search by a bloodhound trained to locate humans based on their scent.

“He just took us to that general vicinity,” Chris Amsler of Aurora Police told The Post.

David was last seen around 5:30 p.m. Dec. 31. His family looked for him for around an hour before contacting the police.

David had a history of wandering from home and one source told KUSA that he left this time after an argument with a sibling.

Divers went into the pond in search of David’s body after the FBI got involved in the search.

Later, around 40 police officers participated in the laying of a wreath at the site where David’s body was recovered.

“We would like to thank the community for their outpouring of support to both David’s family and all of the first responders, investigators and community volunteers who worked tirelessly to find David,” a police statement on Facebook read, according to KMGH.
