Kurin Keys of Fayettville, North Carolina, was upset when his 14-year-old son brought home 2 D’s on his report card, so he decided to do something about it.
Keys wrote, “My Grades Matter” on a pair of sneakers he purchased for his son. The sneakers are Air Jordan 11s, which retail for between $200 and $300.
“His report card wasn't reflective of what we're doing in our household,” Keys said in a video posted to Facebook. "It just wasn't reflective of the fact that we have running water, lights, internet, and a bunch of other things that I didn't have as a kid.”
Keys believes his son can do better and will make his son wear the sneakers, “every day until those grades are A, B’s,” he said. “I don't care about what I spent on the shoes; I need this message to come across every day he looks down at his feet.”

Keys concluded, “his grades matter, not this shoe,” before tossing the sneaker on the ground.
