A New York father died after carrying his daughter out of a burning building.
A fire broke out in a two-family home in Buffalo, New York on Feb. 19, according to authorities.
Demetrius Johnson, 24, carried his eight-year-old daughter, who was badly burned in the fire, out of the home. He died in the fire after returning to the building to rescue others, fire officials say.
“He got me and the little baby out,” Tempest Thomas, the mother of Johnson’s children, told WGRZ.

“My daughter and son were trapped in there," Thomas added. "I threw my daughter in the hallway and told him to get her out of there. He went back in trying to look for his three-year-old son and never made it back out. He died rescuing his son."
According to Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield, Johnson’s three-year-old son was found by a firefighter who carried him out of the house.
Johnson’s eight-year-old daughter, Treasure Brighon, was flown to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Cincinnati, Ohio for burn treatment. His three-year-old son, Demetrius Johnson, was hospitalized for smoke inhalation at Women & Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.
