Dad Accidentally Runs Over Daughter In Driveway

| by Michael Doherty

Tragedy struck when a California father accidentally ran over and killed his 3-year-old daughter, who he didn't see playing in the driveway.

Anthony Beserra, 39, was pulling his truck out of the driveway to go to work on March 10 when he struck his young daughter, Rochelle, who had been playing in the driveway unsupervised, the Daily Mail reports.

Police reportedly arrested Beserra later that day for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine, transporting a machine gun and possession of ammunition.

Rochelle, 3, died shortly after being hit by the truck in the driveway of Beserra's parent's California home.

Beserra, along with Rochelle's mother Destiney Aguilar, 30, rushed the girl to the hospital after the incident, according to the Ventura County Star.

On the way to the hospital, Beserra's truck reportedly broke down, and the couple contacted a relative for help, who took them to a nearby fire station. Rochelle was reportedly in cardiac and respiratory arrest when the family arrived at the fire station, and an ambulance took her to a local hospital, where she passed away.

Aguilar said that at first she didn't notice how badly injured her daughter was.

"I was inside at the time," she said. When Aguilar went outside, she saw Rochelle lying on the ground.

"At first I thought she was throwing a fit," Aguilar said. But on closer inspection noticed that her daughter was bleeding.

"We couldn't call 911 because we didn't have our cell phones with us," said recalled.

The couple also has a toddler-aged son, and live in a trailer outside of Beserra's parents' home. Aguilar said the trailer has a fence to stop the children from wandering away, but that Rochelle must have climbed the fence before ending up in the driveway.

"I miss her so much," wrote Aguilar on Facebook, according to the Daily Mail.. "I'm so lost without her. She was my baby girl."

"Why did God take her so soon for me?" she added. "I want her bad with me at home. She was my partner. We did everything together."

Police booked Beserra into jail early on March 11. He was later released after posting the $60,000 bail on the same day, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Aguilar's sister, Desiree Cabrera, set up a GoFundMe page to help the family pay for funeral expenses, which has raised $2,100 of its $10,000 goal.
