An babysitter from Iowa was sentenced on July 13 to 10 years in prison after her dog attacked and killed a 4-year-old child.

Jena Wright, 26, was babysitting her best friend's daughter, Jordyn Arndt, 4, and her 7-year-old brother in April 2013 when her pet dog attacked Jordyn while they were playing outside. Wright was indoors doing laundry when the attack occurred, reports Inquisitr.

Wright was convicted in May of child endangerment leading to serious injury, neglect of a dependent person, assault on a police officer and interference with official acts, according to KCCI.

Two of Wright's charges included 10-year sentences, which will be served concurrently.

Wright spoke before the courthouse, with the majority of her speech directed to Jessica Arndt, Jordyn's mother.

"Every night my dreams take me back to that tragic day," she said. "I miss Jordyn and Jessica every day and ache to be able to change what happened. There are no words that can possible do justice or explain how heavy my heart is for this loss. I am sincerely sorry."

Wright also spoke of her friendship with Jessica before the tragedy.

"Jessica, I'm truly sorry for the loss of Jordyn and the hurt I have unintentionally caused you and your family. I hope that you can remember the good times that we shared and I pray that one day you can find it in your heart to forgive me," Wright said.

Jordyn's father, Jason Arndt, said Wright's remarks would have been accepted if she showed more emotion during the trial and testimony, according to KCCI.
