Woman Who Killed Her Six Newborn Babies To Serve 49 Years In Prison

| by Kathryn Schroeder

A Pleasant Grove, Utah, woman convicted of strangling six of her newborn babies to death and hiding their bodies in her garage has been sentenced to 49 years in prison.

Megan Huntsman, 40, will not be eligible for parole until April 2064, reports KUTV. She will be 89 years old at that time.

Upon her arrest, Huntsman told police she was too addicted to meth to care for her children during the years of their birth, from 1996 to 2006. She strangled the six babies to death within minutes of their birth.

A detective recounted how Huntsman killed the babies during her sentencing hearing, reports The Daily Mail. He said she would press on their necks with her thumbs until they choked to death. The bodies were then hidden by Huntsman in her garage.

A seventh baby born to Huntsman found in the garage was determined to have been stillborn.

Huntsman was given six sentences of five years to life in prison.

The bodies of the babies were found by their father, Huntsman’s estranged husband, last April, and he notified the police.

Neighbors said Huntsman was “perpetually slim” and they would never have thought she had been pregnant.
