A British tourist in India reportedly jumped from the third-floor window of her hotel room on Tuesday morning in order to avoid being raped by the owner of the hotel.
Fox News reports that the woman was staying at a hotel in the city of Agra when she received an unrequested visit from the owner, Sachin Chauhan, around 5 a.m.
The woman told police that the man knocked persistently, offering her a free massage and when she refused his advances, he returned with a second man and attempted to open her door with a key. The woman leaped off the balcony of her room in order to escape him.
“She got frightened so she ran to the other end of the room and jumped out of the window,” superintendent of police in Agra Pawan Kumar said, per The Inquisitr.
Police say the woman suffered ligament damage in one leg after the fall but was not badly injured.
“She has left the hospital and we have moved her to another hotel while she decides her future travel plans,” police officer Sushant Gaur said. “She is safe but very scared after the incident.”
Police arrested the hotel owner after the incident but have yet to file charges against him. He claims he knocked on the woman’s door only because she asked to be woken up.
