Earlier this week, Opposing Views reported on the man who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for enslaving a mentally disabled woman and her child for two years. Now, that man’s girlfriend and accomplice has been sentenced to 32 years behind bars.
33-year-old Jessica Hunt was sentenced to 32 years in prison on Thursday after being convicted of forced labor, conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and conspiracy to illegally obtain prescription drugs.
Reports say that Hunt and her 28-year-old boyfriend Jordie Callahan kept a mentally disabled woman and her five-year-old daughter enslaved for two years and forced them to do manual labor by various methods of torture. The mother and daughter were reportedly kept in a snake pit, and the couple allegedly threatened to release dangerous animals on them if they refused to work, including a poisonous python, lizards, scorpions, pit bulls and spiders. Callahan also repeatedly sexually abused the mentally disabled woman and threatened to kill her if she told anybody. The couple also injured the woman and took her to the emergency room so that they could take painkillers that were prescribed to her for the injuries.
The mentally disabled woman was eventually freed from her captors after getting caught stealing a candy bar at a local store. When police arrived, the woman told them she wanted to be taken to jail because “people had been mean to her.”
Thankfully, Hunt and Callahan will be spending the next three decades behind bars, and another couple involved in the disturbing crime has also been sentenced to time in prison.
