A Florida woman was recently arrested after turning herself in for her involvement in the death of her young child. This is the second time that the 32-year-old woman, Rachel Fryer, has admitted at least some form of responsibility for the death of one of her children.
Although Fryer was arrested, she was not charged with the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Tariji Gordon. Instead, she was charged with aggravated child neglect.
Fryer has a history of mental illness, as she was found responsible for causing the death of Tariji’s twin brother, Tavont’ae Gordon, in 2011. The incident occurred after Fryer accidentally rolled on top of the boy while they were sleeping on a couch together. The boy died from suffication.
According to the New York Daily News, the Department of Children and Families took Fryer’s four remaining children from her after the incident with Tavont’ae. After a lengthy two-year legal battle with the government agency, Fryer ultimately regained custody of her children.

Despite consistent visits from a Department of Children and Families caseworker, Tariji died soon after being placed back into the care of her mother.
Fryer claims that she found her daughter unresponsive one morning and tried to give her asthma medication and CPR instead of alerting an emergency response team. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Fryer admitted to taking the child to a nearby city, digging a grave for her and burying her in a yard.
After Fryer turned herself in, law enforcement officials received a testimony from her oldest child, a 7-year-old girl, that the mother had regularly beaten Tariji. The police also obtained cell phone records that evidence the woman’s mental illness.
“I can’t take it no more my child is retarded ... I don’t know what else to do ... It’s every day all day. I need my depression medicine ASAP this is too much I’m about to do it,” one text message read.

As Fryer awaits further legal action, her children have been placed back into foster care. She is reportedly four to five months pregnant with another child. She is being held on a bond nearing $1 million.
