Woman in "Abusive Wife" Halloween Costume Arrested for Assaulting Boyfriend

| by

One Detroit woman decided to take on the persona of her unusual Halloween costume, allegedly assaulting her boyfriend while dressed as an “abusive wife.”

Cristina Crespo, 26, was attending a pub crawl to celebrate Halloween. Her boyfriend, who donned a matching costume of an “abused husband,” joined her. His costume included a streak of fake blood dripping from his nose, indicating that he had been punched.

At some point during the festivities, a police officer saw Crespo lying on the sidewalk, and stopped to check on her.

“Another woman came over and helped the (suspect) and they walked into the bar,” said Clawson Police Lt. Scott Sarvello. “The officer went into the bar to check on her and found her sitting outside behind the cantina.”

Crespo informed police that she was dressed as an abusive wife for Halloween, and that she wanted to speak with her boyfriend. Apparently, her costume choice was not immediately obvious.

“The officers they said if she hadn’t made that statement they would have had no idea what she was dressed as,” Sarvello said.

Although Crespo was obviously intoxicated, the officer started to leave the scene after Crespo appeared safe. But as he exited, the officer began to hear a stir. Crespo was allegedly yelling and striking at her boyfriend.

Said Sarvello, “She wouldn’t stop. They were like ‘hey, hey, hey,’ getting her attention. The report reads that she was loud and belligerent.”

Later, the owner of the establishment reported that Crespo had been assaulting her boyfriend earlier as well.

Crespo was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.  After posting 10 percent of her $5,000 bond, she was set free and is expected to appear at a pretrial hearing on November 6.
