Willie James Sauls Gets 45 Years in Jail for Purse Snatching

| by Michael Allen

In Austin, Texas, a judge sentenced Willie James Sauls to 45 years in prison, on Thursday, after a jury found him guilty of an aggravated robbery on 84-year-old Anna Warren last September.

The Austin American Statesman reports that State District Judge Bob Perkins said that Sauls’ prior arrests for retaliation and robbery were reasons for the long jail sentence, which basically means life in jail for the 37-year-old Sauls.

At a Sears store, Sauls pretended to hold the door open for Warren, then grabbed her purse and knocked her down, leaving her handicapped.

The robbery was recorded on the store’s security cameras. Police released the video and  Sauls’ girlfriend and another person identified him.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

Sauls is the second man in Austin to be given a 45-year sentence for purse snatching. Steven Keller, 30, was sentenced to 45 years in prison in June after he punched a woman in the face and stole her purse.
