On the evening on January 15, police found Nicholas Hunter’s body on the living room floor of his Foristell, Missouri, home. Nicholas, 29, sustained seven gunshot wounds to his chest according to Fox 2.

Warren County Sheriff Kevin Harrison said Ashley Hunter, 27, Nicholas’ wife, told 911 dispatchers she shot her husband during a physical altercation. Ashley was transported to a local hospital.

According to a new report from Fox 2, Ashley has now been charged with murder for shooting and killing her husband.

An investigation of the scene of the crime, Ashley’s medical examination and Nicholas’ autopsy led to her arrest. Police said the physical evidence contradicted her earlier statements about shooting Nicholas during a physical fight.

The St. Louis Dispatch reported court documents revealed the couple had been arguing before she procured a handgun and shot her husband.

Ashley has been charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action. Bail was set at $1 million, cash-only. She is currently not in custody.

Just 11 days before the shooting, Ashley posted this on social media:

The couple’s two children, ages 7 and 3, were home during the deadly fight and are now in the care of a relative.
