A woman driving drunk in Roselle, Illinois, was arrested after police spotted a tree stuck to the front grille of her car.
Police pulled the driver, Maryann Christy of Schaumburg, Illinois, over around 11:10 p.m. on Jan. 23 after another motorist noticed the unusual accessory stuck to the front of her 2004 Lincoln and contacted officers, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Christy, 54, told police she had hit the tree somewhere in her hometown of Schaumburg but didn't remember where. Officers smelled alcohol on the woman and administered a field sobriety test.
Christy was arrested and booked for driving under the influence after failing the test, according to police. She is due in court in DuPage County on April 15.
The tree stuck to her car was about 15 feet tall.
Officers conducting the traffic stop took pictures of the vehicle with the tree embedded in its front grille and posted them to the Roselle Police Department's Facebook page on March 4.
The post has since gone viral with over 22,000 shares and 14,000 likes in four days.
Facebook users writing in the comments section of the post expressed their amusement at the incident.
"This is sad and funny all at the same time," one poster wrote. "Good Lord. They must've been big time drunk to not notice a tree in front of their car!"
"Now that's what I call a tree hugger," another commenter joked.
Christy was reportedly heading south on Roselle Road when she was pulled over. According to the Facebook post, the car's airbags were deployed from hitting the tree.
