A Lubbock, Texas, man was indicted by a grand jury on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, after he reportedly beat his pregnant girlfriend.
Police arrested 30-year-old Jacob Pauda after responding to a domestic disturbance call on Feb. 8 and being told by Pauda's girlfriend that he beat her, KCBD reports. According to the girlfriend, Pauda picked her up and brought her to his house. He then began pacing around, leading her to ask him if he'd been using drugs.
"Yeah, a little bit," he allegedly said. Pauda reportedly has a cocaine habit.
According to the girlfriend, Pauda then accused her of cheating on him and then questioned whether he was the father of her unborn baby or not. She denied his accusation. Pauda punched her in the face repeatedly during the assault.
"Don't try and scratch me or it will be worse for you," he told her, according to the girlfriend. After he stopped punching her, Pauda reportedly ran into the kitchen and grabbed a large knife. He then began chasing her around the living room before dropping the knife, grabbing her hair and throwing her to the ground. He proceeded to kick her.
The girlfriend called her mother to come get her, prompting Pauda to slam her head against metal objects throughout the living room. Before officers arrived, Pauda took his two sons, who were in the other room at the time, and left the home.
The man was arrested for the beating on Feb. 10, and his girlfriend was treated for her injuries.
In a similar incident in New York, a man was arrested after beating his pregnant girlfriend for refusing to have an abortion, the Daily Mail reported. He also reportedly researched how to kill an unborn baby. "Can being hit in the stomach cause a miscarriage?" and "What happens if a pregnant woman gets hit in the stomach?" were two of the questions Torey Branch Googled in the months before the assault on his girlfriend.
Branch's girlfriend was beaten so badly that she had to have a cesarean section to remove the dead fetus.
