A Washington state man has been charged with assault and rape after he allegedly sexually assaulted his girlfriend’s baby.
Disturbing reports allege that 26-year-old Thomas Randle Babler was babysitting his girlfriend’s daughter last week when the reported attack happened. Babler’s girlfriend says she received a text from her boyfriend saying that the baby had fallen off the couch and hit her head, but upon returning home to take the girl to the hospital, Babler advised her not to. When the baby started to cry, Babler reportedly said, “Don’t make me throw you again.”
When the woman took her daughter to the hospital, doctors diagnosed the baby with internal bleeding, bruising, and a skull fracture. Upon further examination, it was discovered that the child had been sexually abused.
Meanwhile, as police spoke with Babler, the 26-year-old tried to convince them at first that the little girl had fallen off the couch and hit her head. Later on in the interview, Babler changed his story and said he had thrown the baby off the bed and attacked her during a PTSD episode while he was sleeping.
“It's apparent that the defendant brutally assaulted a one-year-old girl,” Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said. “His story that she was injured by falling off the couch was completely preposterous.”
Ultimately, Babler was charged with first-degree child rape and second-degree assault, and a judge set his bail at $1 million.
