Video: Teacher John Rosi Joins Students in Bullying 13 Year Old
A 13-year-old boy at Kopachuk Middle School in Gig Harbor, Washington was allegedly bullied by his teacher John Rosi and eighth-grade classmates (video below).
The students swung the boy by his arms and legs, wrote on his feet, stuck a traffic cone on his head, gagged him with a sock and taunted him, reports the Daily Mail.
The boy's parents became aware of the bullying, after their son refused to go to school and became withdrawn and suicidal.
They complained to the school administrators and demanded to see the video footage from student cell phones.
The boy's father Randall Kinney told King5.com: "I was shocked. My wife broke down crying. It was tough to see. Rosi is completely ignorant of the fact that he’s got a whole classroom hazing one kid. They classified it as roughhousing. But it’s not 14 kids wrestling each other. It’s a dozen kids using my son to demonstrate their dominance over him."
Rosi was suspended for 10 days without pay, given training and moved to another school, reports the Tacoma News Tribune.
Peninsula School District Superintendent Chuck Cuzzetto told KSDK.com that Rosi displayed "inappropriate classroom management," but the district decided against firing the teacher because of Rosi's body of work over an 18-year teaching career.
However, the Kinneys filed a complaint with police and are calling for Rosi's firing from the school district.

?? Fired?? Since when does
?? Fired?? Since when does being a teacher make you immune to charges of assault?
He needs to be fired because he should be serving time in jail!
And if this was MY kid, he'd be serving time in the hospital, before going to jail.
What's all the fuss about
What's all the fuss about surely most of you have witnessed teachers turning a blind eye to bullying or joining in? I've witnessed it from the time I stepped foot on a public school ground at the age of four. They always favor the kids they identify with and yes that's usually the bullies, and bullies prey on the outsiders, were it not they probably wouldn't be public school teachers for most people with decency and sense aren't fans of public schooling. So then are we correct in
So then are we correct in presuming that you think that nothing should be done, or, more accurately that we shouldn't "rock the boat" of the status quo and allow it to continue?
Because if that is what you are trying to say, then you are an idiot.
What the teacher did, by allowing it to continue; by doing nothing to stop it, is as criminal as the bullying is.
The teacher should be treated like a criminal. The teacher IS, in fact a criminal for not doing anything to stop this.

It seems many people forget.
It seems many people forget. Or perhaps those in the favored group remember it all differently...
John Rosi's punishment was
John Rosi's punishment was too lenient, even with his 18 years of experience. It is a sorry state of American school when teachers allow such activity to occur in the class without taking charge. There is no surprise in the bullied child's reacting of being not protected by the teacher. It is hard to believe that this was an isolated instance.
Been pointing this out since
Been pointing this out since the whole "anti-bullying" crusade got moving. Giving faculty MORE authority is just further empowering some of the worst actual bullies kids have to deal with. Turning their back on such scenes was the least they ever did when I was in school; several teachers were very into victim-blaming for such "disruptions." Whether it was because it was easier to remove the one kid or because they were just as much into dominating the same target I couldn't guess. That is the reality, though.
But keep pushing for those asinine laws. The real victims are the kids that will be labeled "bully," and whose lives will be thoroughly ruined because they didn't fit with the faculty-defined norm.
I think that people need to
I think that people need to take a step back, take a deep cleansing breath, and look at it objectively. The reason a kid gets bullied is the same reason why a kid becomes a bully. It's because both kids have very low self-esteem. Perhaps kids need to take a good martial arts class. Any kind of martial arts that teaches a kid respect, self respect, and that fighting is bad, but if one has to fight, to learn that one should stop rather than hurt, hurt rather than maim, maim rather than kill. For everyone, the bully, the bullied, and everyone in between.
The SOB best be glad it
The SOB best be glad it wasn't my child. He would be wearing an Ass whipping he would never forget. Karmas a Bitch. He will be thinking he is in the clear, then Bam someones gonna get him.
It is unfortunate that these
It is unfortunate that these parents were forced to cooperate with the School to get evidence, but they would likely have never seen these cellphones recordings otherwise. They had absolutely no evidence to take to the police or district attorney to compel an investigation. No witnesses, Only their son's story. Police rarely get involved because one kid claimed his teacher watch him get beat up. Now that they have secured these videos, it becomes solely up to the legal authorities of Washington to seek justice, which I hope is forthcoming. I also hope these parents contact a civil rights attorney to sue the school, that teacher and all parents of the teens if possible. A teacher's union might protect this man's license to teach, but no school can be compelled, even by a teacher's union, to employ a convicted felon. Parent's throughout America should be watching this case closely & learning how to ensure criminal convictions for ANYONE who assaults their child. No matter how many responders her hate Unions, those contracts are business agreements. No business contract can make participants immune from criminal charges & penalties. http://www.thenewstribune.com/2012/08/31/2276102/peninsula-district-puts-controversial.html

I came to tears watching this
I came to tears watching this video because I know from experience that this poor boys life has been altered forever because of this experience. This is what he will remember when he thinks about his childhood and school days. It will overshadow any good memories and leave an ache in his heart that may never go away. For this reason, the teacher, students and parents should all be held accountable! Bullying needs to stop!!!!
The teacher will not be fired
The teacher will not be fired because of teacher's union. In California the Senate passed a bill to get pedophiles out of the classroom and it passed 33 to 4 but the Teachers Union owns the Democraticlly controlled California Assembly and they rejected SB1530 in committee. The law would have allowed for school boards to remove a teacher from the classroom for serious offenses involving drugs, violence or sex with the students. The law stems from a case at Miramonte Elementary where an investigation of a pedophile teacher was kept secret from parents for years while the abuse continued in the classroom. The teacher was charged with 23 counts based on bondage photos depicting students/children gagged and forced to ingest a clear white liquid. (The spoon was later tested and found positive for semen.) Some pictures showed children gagged and bound, sometimes with live cockroaches on their faces or about to eat a cookie covered in a clear white liquid. All of this was kept a secret from the parents due to the Union regulations that protect teachers no matter what they do. SB1530 was intended to protect the children by removing teacher accused of serious offenses from the classroom but this was absolutely unacceptable to the California Teachers Union. In a system where a child is immediately expelled for bringing a plastic knife to cut the brownies, a teacher can stay in place for years while the process to get them out to the classroom moves at glacial speed. “In the past decade,” reported Beth Barrett at the L.A. Weekly in 2010, “LAUSD officials spent $3.5 million trying to fire just seven of the district’s 33,000 teachers for poor classroom performance—and only four were fired, during legal struggles that wore on, on average, for five years each. Two of the three others were paid large settlements, and one was reinstated. The average cost of each battle is $500,000.” In the end, the school paid the teacher a bucket of money to resign and he will now live on his generous teacher’s pension with full lifetime benefits. Criminal charges? Under investigation. The kids? The were told to get tested for sexually transmitted diseases.
That was horrible!!! No child
That was horrible!!! No child should be bullied like that! Some adults are bullied too much, too. Just see the sworn labor complaint on the drop-menu of a site called Supremely Unjust to see one such instance -- just terrible. The site is at http://www.supremelyunjust.weebly.com .
That man was illegally driven out of court after being driven from his job at a famous NPO. He now has a petition at... http://www.change.org/petitions/u-s-congressional-judiciary-committees-dept-of-justice-the-fbi-investigate-judicial-corruption-in-lawsuit-of-noack-vs-ymca# .
The teacher's and classmates'
The teacher's and classmates' pictures and names should be published in the local newpaper with an attending article of their behaviour...may they feel the humiliation that child did.
I hope the boys parents sue the school, teacher and parents of each child involved....parents need to take responsibility for their children's actions - they 'supposedly' raised them. If after a certain age, parent's aren't responsible, then the child would be and let them carry the burden of what they have done.
What kid of childen are these?
1 heinous act in 18 years?
1 heinous act in 18 years? I'd say their were countless others and they were just fortunate to see just one that was caught on tape. With all bullying awareness since Columbine this teacher failed in his job in every way. The utter lack of common sense demands immediate termination. I were a tax payer in that state I would demand his head with no pension. It is a mathematical impossibility that this is his one and only mistake in 18 years o service and it was caught on video. Statistically it would make sense that this behavior was his norm. If my child was in that video I would have a whole bunch of empathy exercises and things to drive home the point. Believe me when I tell you he'd get the message.
I simply cannot comprehend
I simply cannot comprehend why this teacher, John Rosi, was only suspended without pay and then transferred to another school. Clearly he has no common sense that he was complicit in a crime of bullying and assault against the victim.
School Administration at Gig Harbor, Washington should not allow this irresponsible teacher to teach children again. Rosi should be fired!!!!
Simple answer: the teachers'
Simple answer: the teachers' union..... they won't let that happen. If it were a new teacher, yes they could be fired, but after 2 years all bets are off.
As a retired SpEd teacher.... and I've taught SED teens as well as simple LD kids.... this just infuriates me..... GAWD what I'd give to be on a jury for that asshole!!!!!
This teacher should be fired,
This teacher should be fired, with prejudice, and sent to jail as an accessory. The school and the district should be sued for their own negligence in this matter.
The teenagers that did this should also be held criminally liable.
The way that the school chose to handle this is reminiscent of what the Catholic church does with it's priests that molest children; minimize their responsibility and relocate the offender with a slap on the wrist and a chance to re-offend.
I guess that the zero tolerance policies being enacted in schools these day is selective in it's applications.
The insanity principle is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. The far right, the far left, vegans, creationists and other extremists believe in the insanity principle, religiously.
As of an hour ago, the local
As of an hour ago, the local newspaper ran an article that Rosi has been put on "paid-Leave" pending the Pierce Co. county sherrif's investigation. I'm giving the link below, though my impression is this sherrif's office is primarily investigating the threats made against Rosi. If parent's nationwide push the national media to keep a spotlight on this community this little boy might get the justice he deserves. Locally, it seems that school & this John Rosi is being protected.
