Connecticut State Trooper Aaron Huntsman has been accused of stealing $3,000 in cash and a gold chain from John Scalesse, who was the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash in Fairfield, Connecticut on Sept. 22 (video below).

Huntsman, an 18-year veteran, has been suspended from the department and was charged on Wednesday with two counts of third-degree larceny, interfering with police and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Police began investigating when the Scalesse's family determined that jewelry, clothing and cash were missing, reports the Connecticut Post.

State Police determined that no jewelry was logged into evidence and found the jewelry and a large amount of cash in the trooper’s police cruiser, reports NBC Connecticut.

Huntsman was released after posting a $5,000 bond and will be arraigned in court on Dec. 10.
