National Rifle Association Exec. VP Wayne LaPierre gave a press conference today, one week after the mass shooting of 20 school children and 6 adults in Newtown, Connecticut, but was interrupted several times times by protesters (video below).
LaPierre said: "Politicians pass laws for gun-free school zones, they issue press releases bragging about them, they post signs advertising them. And in doing so, they tell every insane killer in America that schools are the safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk.”
LaPierre said that the Connecticut shooting could have been prevented if teachers and staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School had been armed with guns, reports RawStory.com and CNN.
When LaPierre claimed that the kids were “utterly defenseless” because there was a lack of guns in the school, a protester unfurled a sign that read: “NRA Killing Our Kids.”
The protester shouted: "NRA stop killing our children! It’s the NRA and the assault weapons that are killing our children! Do not arm teachers! We’ve got to end the violence! We’ve got to stop the killing! Stop the killing in our schools, stop the killing in our homes, stop the killing in our streets!"
Minutes later, another protester with the group Code Pink stood up with a sign that read: “NRA: Blood on Your Hands” and yelled: “Shame on the NRA! Ban assault weapons now!”
