Video: Filmmaker Eugene Jarecki Says 'War on Drugs' Fueled by Private Prison Industry

On Tuesday night's 'Daily Show,' filmmaker Eugene Jarecki explained how the so-called 'war on drugs' was fueled by private prisons, which are owned by corporations (video below).

Jarecki’s new documentary, 'The House I Live In,'  shows how America’s war on drugs results in mass imprisonment, financial gain for prison owners and big money for police officers who clock mountains of overtime with drug arrests, reports RawStory.com.

Jarecki told host Jon Stewart: “We are seeing places where the extraordinary power of corporations in this country, and the unholy alliance they have with those in Congress, is destroying everything… There are private prisons all over this country that rely for their own survival on the incarceration of our fellow human beings.”

“I went to prison-industrial trade shows where I saw people who literally make their entire life’s work out of selling you the better stun gun."

Jarecki added: “This has been such a disaster. Forty-years, a trillion dollars spent, 45 million arrests, and yet drugs are cheaper, purer, more available today than ever before.”

Are you Trolling Neanderthal?

Are you Trolling Neanderthal? The Al Capones from the other prohibition were replaced by Coors, Busch, Seagrams and thousand of other Taxpaying, Job Creating legitimate businesses, run by business people, not Criminal Orgs. Only someone not looking can't see that it's the Prohibition and the Black Market it creates which is the Problem. Anyone who blames the substance and not the laws for the Black Market and associated violence is not being honest. If it was true, we would have seen an influx of violence after the repeal of alcohol prohibition. History has proven that premise to be totally wrong. Those same gangs traffic in humans, and have associated violence in that trade as well.

Dems and Reps, different pages from the same bad book!

Mike, No, I'm NOT 'trolling'.

Mike,

No, I'm NOT 'trolling'. I'm deadly serious.

Your lack of intellectual honesty illustrates just how little you understand the issues at hand, because anyone attempting to equate booze with drugs like Crank, Horse, and Coke, is either deranged, imbecilic, or dishonest.

Which are you?

There is NO SUCH THING as a

There is NO SUCH THING as a NON-VIOLENT DRUG CRIME! ALL levels of drug production, importation, distribution, sales, and USE, are RIFE with VIOLENCE and anyone who stipulates otherwise is a bald faced LIAR.

The cemeteries, morgues, and now bridges, rivers, boats, and ditches are FILLED with the bodies of those MURDERED as part and parcel of the Drug Trade.

So far in Mexico alone, some 55,000 people have been MURDERED as part of the Drug Trade......and that's just Mexico!

So how about all you pro-drug legalization people STOP with the LIES about drug crimes being 'non-violent'?!!!!
