U.S. Iraq War Vet Kimberly Rivera Arrested After Refusing Another Military Tour, Moving to Canada

article image

Kimberly Rivera, a U.S. Army private who fled to Canada to escape further service in the Iraq War, was arrested at the U.S. border on Thursday. The mother of four children may now face between two to five years in jail.

Rivera lost a deportation case in Canada, where she spent five years with her family. She was recently ordered to leave the country, reports the Associated Press.

Rivera served in Iraq in 2006, but became disillusioned with the occupation. Rather than face another tour of duty in 2007, she decided to move to Canada where she applied for refugee status.

The War Resisters Support Campaign, a Canadian non-profit organization that helps U.S. military personnel who refused to participate in the Iraq war, launched a campaign in support for Rivera with 19,000+ people signing an online petition protesting her deportation order.

However, Canadian immigration authorities said they don’t believe Rivera would be subjected to persecution and ordered her to leave. They were wrong.

On Thursday, Rivera handed herself in to authorities at the U.S. border. She was then arrested and transferred to military custody, reports the ,Associated Press.

Rivera told reporters last month that her biggest fear about being deported was being separated from her four children.

It's only the beginning,

It's only the beginning, America. When/IF the USA has a major war,.... ...just imagine where lots of the perverts that are now allowed in the military will be going -- out of the U.S., likely. Most homos don't want to die knowing they are living in sin & would go to hell -- even if they say they don't believe all that. Some will fight, but lots will probably flee.

Then, you got all the illegals that Obama wants to let stay here -- they'd be fleeing back to OUTside the USA, wherever they came from to save their asses, too, and to wave their Mexican flags so. of the border, etc. after stealing our jobs & public services, med, care, schooling, etc.

    Some of the new volunteers

Some of the new volunteers seem to forget that the "job" of a soldier is to wage war. Shoot and get shot at. The signing bonus, training and college are "perks" to recruit and train soldiers who's job is to go to war. Not the other way around.

    Eleventh commandment for

Eleventh commandment for Christians who think they have a Christian nation. "Thou shalt kill when instructed to by your gov't whether or not it's the right thing to do." signed: GOD I'm sorry our Canadian gov't screwed up but she has my support and sympathy. Canada, thank goodness, did not support the Iraq war. Thank you to all the vets who have fought in past wars that were necessary, we owe our freedom and lifestyle to them, but the war in Iraq was illegal, stupid, and started by a bunch of god-fearing, hypocritical, delusional maniacs. Don't shoot me please, I don't own a gun, nor care to. Unless, you count my air gun from when I was a kid. I do have a hammer and saw, however!

My heart goes out to all

My heart goes out to all service personnel who were misused & abused by extended tours of duties in Bush's illegal invasion and war against against Iraq. Since this US Congress was also deceived into financing a first invasion strike, I hope she will get support from her federal legislators for a reduced sentence. Rivera committed a crime, even if the Commander in Chief committed a more serious crime & walked away without due process. Two wrongs cannot make a right, but she deserves her day in a public, civilian courtroom where all mitigating factors may have some effect on her sentence.

    "Mitigating circumstances"?

"Mitigating circumstances"? Save me, and my fellow vets, your pity. She volunteered, and had she talked to the Chaplain, could probably have had either a hardship discharge or discharge for "Failure to adapt to military life." It's done all the time. One of my troops went inactive because he was a single parent, but remained subject to emergency call.

No, this is yet another mock "liberal" slime who wants the money and the college, but doesn't want to fulfill their obligations. They give real liberals, and vets, a bad name.

Canada refused to grant her status for precisely that reason.

And stop with the "illegal invasion" crap. It got tiresome by 2004. 37 countries all knew what they were doing, and the reasons for doing so.
