Salt Lake City police arrested a 32-year-old man on Sept. 19 for the murder of three people, including a 2-month-old girl.
Alexander Tran was found by officers on Sept. 18 inside the home of three people he murdered, and was arrested the next day.
On Sept. 18, after the relatives of an 8-year-old boy failed to pick him up from school, police went to their home to investigate. When they arrived, they found Tran and the bodies of Heike Poike, 50, her 2-month-old granddaughter Lyrik Poike, and 28-year-old Dakota Smith. All three victims had gunshot wounds.

Tran lived in the basement of the home and the others lived in the main floor of the house. The family had moved in about six months ago. Tran was already living in the basement when they started renting the upstairs.
Anntanika Acres, who has lived in the neighborhood for 11 years, said that she worried Tran would try to break into her property and hurt somebody in her family.
"Last month he taped up his eyes closed and he laid on the roof and his parents came over to our house freaking out saying, 'We need to call the cops, he's been hurting himself, he's been chanting a lot, like evil stuff,' so just very scary,'" Acres said.
When police first arrived at the home, they spotted what looked like a body covered by a tarp through a window. They walked around back and found an open door to enter the house. They called out to see if anyone was inside and discovered Tran inside with a gun. The bodies were discovered soon after and Tran was taken into custody.
