Two Elderly Men Fight in Front of Costco, One Dies

| by Michael Allen

A fight broke out recently in front a Costco in Redding, California, between an 81-year-old Robert Leonard Mix and 70-year-old Gerald Eugene Carpenter.

Officers were called to the scene and found Mix lying in front of the store. He was conscious and speaking with medics.

According to the Redding Record Searchlight, the two seniors began arguing about Mix’s truck blocking traffic; that's when Carpenter challenged Mix to a fight.

Mix got out of the pickup and tried to hit Carpenter with a metal cane, but Carpenter grabbed the cane and both men fell.

Mix hit his head on the pavement and was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery.

However, the surgery wasn't successful enough. Mix was placed on life support until he died today.

An autopsy is scheduled and police are submitting the case to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office for review.
