A school bus cleaner was arrested in India on suspicion of raping a 4-year-old girl in the vehicle on the outskirts of Mumbai, Badlapur police said Monday.

The girl told her parents about the incident more than a week after it occurred on Sept. 6. Police say she was threatened by her attacker not to tell anyone, but it was revealed when she had to be hospitalized from pain and injuries she sustained during the rape.

The 26-year-old attacker was charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act.

“The cleaner called her to the back seat on the pretext of showing her some tricks. He then caught the girl and raped her,” said inspector S.K. Mohite.

The girl was alone on the school bus with a friend. She screamed for her friend to help her, but the attacker threatened to hurt them both.

Another 4-year-old was reportedly raped and thrown from a train in Jaipur at 11:30p.m. on Saturday. She was found lying unconscious in a forest area in Bharatpur’s Takha. Nearby police found an elderly relative of the girl, about 70 years old. They believe the little girl was traveling on the train with the elderly relative when the attack took place and both were thrown from the train. They have both been hospitalized.

“They both are in deep shock; the child has been unable to utter even a single word,” police told dna.

Rights groups Friday spoke out against the execution of four men convicted of raping and killing a woman on a New Delhi bus last December.

“Eliminating these men will not eliminate the culture of rape. The deep misogyny of potential assailants, as well as many actors within the criminal justice system needs to shift,” said Karuna Nundy, a Supreme Court lawyer.

Last week, a 2-year-old girl was kidnapped from her parents home in Ludhiana, Punjab province, in the middle of the night. Raped by two men and dumped on a roadside, she was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday.
