Georgia death row inmate Troy Davis has lost his final appeal, and unless something miraculous happens, he will be put to death on Wednesday.

On Tuesday the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Parole denied his bid for clemency, the last place Davis and his supporters could go to stop the execution.

Davis was convicted of killing a police officer in Savannah in 1989. Since his initial conviction, however, several witnesses have recanted their testimony and said Davis wasn't the gunman.

Davis released a statement through Amnesty International USA:

"The struggle for justice doesn't end with me. This struggle is for all the Troy Davises who came before me and all the ones who will come after me. I'm in good spirits and I'm prayerful and at peace. But I will not stop fighting until I've taken my last breath."
