A 3-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death with a plastic rod after he drank milk from a jug.
According to investigators in Orange County, Florida, 3-year-old Xavier Mokarzel-Satchel died from injuries caused after his mother's roommates, Callene Barton, 58, and Lakesha Lewis, 28, beat him for drinking out of a milk jug and eating yogurt on July 7, the New York Post reports.
Lewis allegedly beat the boy with a plastic rod used to open and close window blinds until it broke, while Barton is accused of throwing the boy down a hallway afterward. Xavier's mother, Brandi Mokarzel, woke up from the sounds of Barton yelling at the boy and called 911 when he started shaking as if he was having a seizure.
Barton and Lewis attempted to resuscitate Xavier by splashing water over his face, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

When Mokarzel tried to call the police, Barton is alleged to have threatened her because she didn't want to lose another child to Child Protective Services. Lewis' 4-year-old son, who was also living at the apartment, was taken into custody by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Mokarzel had to go to a neighbor's apartment to call for help. When she got back to the apartment, the police report states, Xavier was on his back and had food coming out of his nose.
When police arrived at the home, they found the toddler barely breathing. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lewis and Barton have each been charged with first-degree murder for Xavier's death and are being held without bond. Mokarzel was charged with child neglect after she did not report previous abuse by the roommates; she is being held on a $2,500 bond.
Mokarzel admitted to investigators that the two women had hit Xavier before. Medical examiners said that the young boy had bruises that were healing at the time of his death.
Xavier's father, 27-year-old Jaquan Satchel, said that he had not seen his son in two years. He had separated from Mokarzel and now lives in Washington.
"The kid was a ball of sunshine," said Satchel. "Every day was amazing. I got to joke and laugh with him."
He added that he had been saving money to try and get full custody of Xavier before his tragic death.
"Every night I dream about him," said the dad. "The kid looks exactly like me -- we have the exact same attitude."
