Started in 2006, the Clarion Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public on the dangers of Islamic radicalism while promoting moderate, peace-oriented policies. The project brings together scholars, Middle East experts, human rights activists and Muslims in hopes of advancing tolerance and moderation in the face of extremism.
The Clarion Project’s 2009 film, The Third Jihad, explores radical Islam in America and the risk that this “homegrown jihad” brings to Americans. The film is narrated by Muslim American Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser. In contrast to “violent jihad," the film introduces the idea of “cultural jihad” in which extremists attempt to undermine the western way of life from within America rather than with violent attacks from the outside.
