Texas Teen Sets Mother’s Clothes On Fire When She Refused Him Money For Weed

An 18-year-old Houston man is facing charges after he allegedly set his mother’s clothes on fire because she refused to give him money to buy marijuana.

Authorities responded to a fire Saturday morning at an apartment complex in northwest Harris County. The fire had spread from the suspect’s home to another apartment.

Damage was minor, but investigators with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office say the blaze was intentionally set.

"Our investigation found that 18-year-old John Carter was angry at his mother because she would not give him money so he could buy marijuana, so he started setting her clothes on fire," said Lt. Dean Hensley with the Harris County Fire Marshal Office.

Carter was arrested and charged with arson. He was later released from Harris County jail on $30,000 bond.
