Six young men in the Waco, Texas were charged this week with gang-raping a 15-year-old girl.
Devoric Javon Evans, 20; Lamont Tray Davis, 19; Day’tron Derrell Smith, 18; Da’Juan Oshea Degrate, 18; Cory Darnell Hall, 18; and Douglas Demond Canada are all charged with gang-raping the young victim in April.
According to police, the victim skipped school with several friends on the day of the rape and visited a home in Waco where the men were residing. Shortly after entering the home, the men began sexually assaulting her.
The victim says that Douglas Canada was the first man to assault her. She says he raped her inside a bathroom at the house. The other men joined in on the crime soon after.

Due to the collective nature of the assault, the state of Texas considers the crime an “act of concert.” Accordingly, all six men will be held responsible for each others' actions. Because of this, the men’s maximum prison sentences are all well over 1,000 years each.
Because he was the initial offender, Canada is charged with 13 counts of aggravated assault of a child and three counts of sexual assault of a child. The other five men are each charged with 13 counts of aggravated assault of a child and two counts of sexual assault of a child. Each man’s collective charges carry a maximum sentence of about 1,300 years in prison.
