How far would you go to protect one of your children from a sex offender?

Just this week, A Texas man flew into a murderous rage when he caught a pedophile red handed with his four-year-old daughter.

The father’s name has not been released to protect the young victim’s identity. Authorities in Lavaca County, Texas, allege that he beat a 47-year-old pedophile (identified only as “Gonzales”) to death after he discovered the middle-aged sex offender on top of his daughter in a barn.

According to the police report, the father heard his daughter screaming from inside the family’s barn. When he went to investigate, he discovered Gonzales assaulting her. After pulling Gonzales off of the little girl, the father struck the pedophile over the head several times until Gonzales lost consciousness. According to Sheriff Micah Harmon (pictured above left), the man died at the scene.

The daughter, however, was taken to DeTar Hospital in Victoria, Texas, for evaluation.

The father has not been arrested for the murder of Gonzales; friends and relatives from his small Lavaca County Township have rallied around him for support. Friend and neighbor Mark Harabis said of the crime, “I agree with him totally. I would probably do worse. The family will have to deal with that the rest of their lives, no matter what happens to the father. Even if they let him go, he and his child will have to deal with that the rest of their lives.”

The girl was taken to DeTar hospital in Victoria to be evaluated and have tests done

"Even if they let him go, he...will have to deal with THAT the rest of [his] life.”

Yeah, he will have to deal with high fives and free beers the rest of his life.

I'd have done the same thing

I'd have done the same thing if not more and sadly I'm overjoyed that he died. That being said if law in this country means anything this father killed a man and the court needs to hear the whole story. I don't want him to serve any time but it needs to be tried.

If ever there were a case of justifiable homicide....

Understandable, but not (on

Understandable, but not (on the facts presented) justifiable. He may still escape charge given the (again) understandable reluctance of a jury to convict on whatever lesser charge is appropriate.

No jury would convict this

No jury would convict this man. Also, you are allowed to use deadly force to defend a family member being raped by someone else. I disagree... this would be considered justifiable homicide.

Glad you agree with me about

Glad you agree with me about the likelihood of a jury conviction, but self defence or defence of others quite properly has limits. The reported facts suggest he used appropriate force to stop/prevent harm to his daughter. He then apparently beat the man to death when (again it would appear) the imminent danger had passed. If so, legally the homicide is not justifiable but the extreme provocation makes it a lesser charge than murder.

LoL The "danger" had

LoL The "danger" had passed!??! You have been watching too many movies, you think because a bad guy is stopped from harming someone the "danger" is over!?!? How many fights have you been in?? I am guessing ZERO...

And why is it a criminal expects committing a crime to be a 'safe' thing to do?

This world gets nuttier all the time....

_Reason_'s picture

Clearly you have no

Clearly you have no understanding of the law. Yes of course I have been in fights but there is no indication here that the child molester was fighting back (in which case the defence would be self defence not defence of others), and if that isn't the case the danger (to the child) had indeed passed and no one is then entitled to take the law into their own hands, however much we might like to do so.

Again this has zero to do with the expectations of safety from any criminal. It has everything to do with the society we wish to live in, where the rule of law is sacrosanct. If you would rather live somewhere where vigilante 'justice' rules I'm sure there are plenty of other countries which would make you feel welcome ... welcome that is until someone decides it should be you on the receiving end.

It's not clear if he hit the man more than was reasonable. We'll have to wait for the autopsy and grand jury determination:
