| by Charles Roberts

A 17-year-old was reportedly shot dead by a neighbor in Gadsden, Alabama, after a resident said she was robbed at gunpoint and raped by the teen and two other suspects.

According to reports, three young men, one of whom was carrying a gun, broke into a woman’s home at around 3 a.m. on April 13. The 37-year-old victim was asleep when the men broke down her door, and once she woke up, the teenage suspect put a gun to her head and raped her while the other two raided the home, reports Fox 6.

The other suspects eventually left the home, but the 17-year-old stayed behind and beat the woman in the head with his gun while demanding that she give him money, reports AL.com. The victim reportedly told the teenage suspect her neighbor down the street kept her money, so the teen forced her down the street to the neighbor's home.

When the two got to the neighbor’s house, the 37-year-old banged on his door and yelled she was being attacked. The 59-year-old neighbor looked out of his window to see that she was in trouble, and immediately, he picked up the phone to call police.

The teen was not happy the neighbor called police, so he reportedly fired two shots into the air while telling him to hang up the phone. Suddenly, the suspect pointed his gun at the neighbor, and without missing a beat, the neighbor pulled out his gun and fired a single shot into the teen’s chest, noted Capt. Bobby Jackson of the Gadsden police. The teen reportedly attempted to run away, but after going a short distance, he fell to the ground and died.

Police arrived at the scene and questioned the neighbor, who was later released, and the female victim was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

“It's a blessing the guy was at home where the lady could get his attention and maybe this will get our neighbors to look out and help each other,” local resident Gene Handy told Fox 6 News.

The 17-year-old’s mother reportedly denies that her now-deceased son did what police say he did and claims that it is being unfairly “pinned” on him.

Police are actively investigating the incident and are asking for the public’s help in finding more information.
