Teacher James Hooker Arrested For Sexually Abusing Student

| by Michael Allen

High school teacher James Hooker, who made news after moving in with 18-year-old student Jordan Powers, was arrested on Friday for allegedly sexually abusing a different student more than a decade ago.

On Saturday, Powers told ABC News that when Hooker, 41, called her from jail she told him: "We're done. I lost my senior year. I gave up all my friends at high school because they didn't agree with me."

After being booked on one count of oral copulation with a minor, Hooker made a brief court appearance and entered a not guilty plea. Hooker was later released from the Stanislaus County Jail after posting $50,000 bail, the The Modesto Bee reported.

Powers and Hooker (pictured left) moved in together in February, with Powers dropping out of James Enochs High School in Modesto, California. Hooker quit his teaching job there and left his wife and three children.

Powers and Hooker appeared on a number of national talk shows and maintained they didn't have sex until she turned 18.

The teen's mother, Tammie Powers, told The Modesto Bee that her daughter moved out of the apartment that she shared with Hooker: "She is safe, and I'm glad of that, and I'm elated that he's in custody."
