A 24-year-old teacher from North Carolina has been arrested and charged with soliciting sex from a 13-year-old former student in northern Virginia.
She was placed on administrative leave on April 18, WECT reports.
Kathleen Capitano of Shallotte, North Carolina, was charged with four felony counts of using a communications system to solicit sex from a minor, the Associated Press reports.
Capitano had met the boy during an internship at Coates Elementary School in Herndon, Virginia, during the 2014-2015 school year.

"She met a 12-year-old student at Coates and a physical relationship began between the two of them," according to Fairfax County police spokesman Don Goddart.
Fairfax County police, along with the FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force, began tracking Capitano's online activity after becoming aware of the pair's relationship.
Warrants related to the case allege that Capitano exposed her genitals to the child during online communications on four separate occasions between January 2015 and February 2016, reports WNCN.
She had planned to meet the student for sex at a hotel in Herndon, Virginia, on April 16 at around 1 p.m.

Officials had met with the child's parents and notified them about the relationship beforehand. Capitano was arrested at the hotel.
A spokesperson for Brunswick County Schools, Jessica Swencki, said that Capitano will remain on administrative leave from her job as a math teacher at Shallotte Middle School pending the findings of the investigation.
Capitano was arraigned on April 18 and was ordered by the judge to be held without bond.
