A suicidal mother allegedly sealed up the cracks in the door to her luxury NYC apartment and turned up the gas in a murder-suicide attempt, according to a criminal complaint.
Natalie Nicosia, 48, used masking tape and cardboard to seal up the W. 53rd Street apartment with her 3-year-old daughter inside on March 24. Tenants began to complain to management about the strong smell of gas.
The super pounded on Nicosia’s door over the smell, but according to court papers she told him, “It’s okay, you don’t need to check.”
She didn’t speak again, so the super called 911.
Nicosia and her daughter were taken to a local hospital and treated for gas inhalation. Neither were injured, officials told the New York Daily News.
Charged with felony reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child, Nicosia is now being held for psychiatric evaluation in the jail ward of Elmhurst Hospital. The hospital recommends civil commitment if Nicosia makes bail.
She pleaded not guilty during her arraignment last Tuesday. She faces seven years in prison if convicted, the New York Post reported.
She is scheduled to appear in court June 19.
