After several fights, Hayley King’s roommates put hidden cameras up in their apartment out of fear of what she might do in retaliation. The two roommates told police they had tried to get King to move out, but she refused.
King, a University of South Carolina student who lived in an off-campus apartment in Columbia, South Carolina, was caught on camera spitting in her roommate’s food and spraying and pouring window cleaner into it.
One of the roommates ate out of the container.
Police reviewed the tape and brought King, 22, in for questioning. She confessed to tampering with her roommates’ food and has since been charged with unlawful, malicious tampering with human drug product or food, a Class C felony. She faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
According to a police report, a friend of King threatened one of the roommates via text: "While Hayley is moving out don't [expletive] with her. Y'all have been [expletive] taunting her since the semester started. If she tells me you're [expletive] with her I will personally come and check you. You too old to try to be bullying some damn body. Grow the [expletive] up."
"The aftermath ... caused me to fall behind in my classes," one of King's roommates told WISTV. "I was forced to switch out of one of my courses because I was so distracted with everything going on. This not only affected me physically, having to deal with the repercussions of the incident, but also mentally from the anxiety that came along with it.”
