An 18-year-old was handed a 20-year prison sentence Thursday after pleading guilty to a charge of second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
Qwenshun Jones, from Spartanburg, South Carolina, had his sentence reduced to 12 years in jail and a further five years suspended following his plea.
Jones will also be registered as a sex offender.
According to Fox Carolina, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Aug. 18, 2013. The victim, 13 at the time, was spending the night at a home on Sims Chapel Road.

Jones put his hand over the girl’s mouth and forced himself on her, the prosecution said in court. He was 16 when the crime was committed.
The victim texted a family member, who came to collect her and bring her to hospital.
She gave a detailed account of the assault to hospital workers and police officers.
It was not clear from reports whether the girl knew Jones at the time of the assault.

When questioned on the incident, Jones initially claimed the two were playing around on a couch, but he subsequently changed his account and admitted to the assault, WSPA reported.
Police detectives were able to obtain DNA from the victim’s body, which was matched to Jones, according to Fox Carolina.
Jones reportedly asked the victim for forgiveness in a series of Facebook posts.
