South Carolina woman Crystal Lawson, 35, was charged with unlawful neglect of a child after police found children covered with insect bites.

Police visited Lawson’s Woodruff, South Carolina, home following a report from a family member that the condition of the home and children were not up to standard, Fox Carolina reported. Police met with Lawson, the mother of all five children, who willfully let them into her home.

The ceilings, walls, floors and countertops were covered in cockroaches, according to police. There were also rodents and holes throughout the home. Many of the rooms were dirty and there was no food in any of the cabinets or fridge.

All five children living in the home, including a paralyzed girl who was discovered in a stroller, were covered in insect bites.

The South Carolina Department of Social Services has begun an investigation into the family. The children have since been taken into custody.
