South Carolina man Wayne Joshua Mitchell died after he reportedly consumed an ounce of cocaine that was hidden in his brother’s buttocks.
Wayne and his 23-year-old brother Deangelo Rashard Mitchell were in the back of a police car after being arrested for drug trafficking when the event occurred. Video from inside the police car captured the conversation between both brothers, in which Deangelo pleads with Wayne to remove the cocaine from his bottom and eat it to get rid of it.
“One of us gotta do it, you the only one that don’t have any strikes,” Deangelo said. “You my little brother…I’m gonna get life.”
Wayne complied and ate the drugs. An hour later, after officers discovered the cocaine residue on the seat, Wayne struggled to breath and bled from his mouth until he died. After toxicology results confirmed that Wayne died directly from consuming cocaine, police decided to pursue serious charges.
Originally, Deangelo was charged with trafficking drugs and bonded out of jail on January 1. Now, authorities have charged Deangelo with involuntary manslaughter. Deangelo has also been charged with alleged cocaine distribution.
A spokesperson for the Charleston Police Department stated in a press release on Tuesday that Deangelo is in custody awaiting a bond hearing.
