Shelly Miller Beats Coach; Forced Daughter to Run Laps

In Michigan City, Indiana, police say that Shelly S. Miller, 37, has been charged with felony battery after allegedly beating assistant basketball coach Jeffrey Yackus at the St. Stanislaus School.

The assault reportedly happened shortly after 3 p.m. last Wednesday. During practice, two players got into an argument and were punished by being made to run laps inside the gym.

When Miller, the father of one of those players, arrived at the school, he was angered by his daughter's punishment. He approached assistant coach Yackus and reportedly punched him.

Police say that Yackus was knocked to the ground and Miller climbed on top of him and continued punching him in the face and head, into unconsciousness.

Head coach Robert Johnson stopped Miller, who then left the school. Yackus was taken to the hospital to be treated for a concussion.

Miller was arrested on Friday and charged with battery. His bond was set at $15,000, which he popsted on Monday night.
