A Salt Lake City high school teacher accused of having sex with three students defended herself in court April 5 by saying she did not mean to hurt anybody.

The now-divorced former Davis High School English teacher, 36-year-old Brianne Altice, wrote in a two-page document that she “had no evil or malicious intent to cause harm,” WCMH reports.

She opted to defend herself through writing, stating that “I cannot afford proper counsel to defend myself. I will respond to what I can to the best of my ability and knowledge.”

Altice continued to try to redeem herself by pointing out one boy’s grades improved after being her student.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

She added she also advised one of the minors “to communicate with his parents and continue to do his best in school.”

Altice had initially responded to the parents’ lawsuit against her by lashing out against them, the Daily Mail reports. She accused them of having had conflicts with their son and of failing to attend parent-teacher conferences.

She did admit she was emotionally damaged and regrets making the mistake of succumbing to the teenager’s sexual advances.

Altice was initially arrested in 2013 and fired from the school after it was revealed she had had sexual relations with a 16-year-old boy, The Huffington Post reports.

Upon her release from jail, the woman continued having sex with other teenage boys in both 2013 and 2014. She was again jailed in January 2015 after officials learned of the affairs.

She will now serve two to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty in 2015 to the crimes.

“She was in a position of special trust which makes it impossible for victims to consent,” Deputy Davis County Attorney Susan Hunt said.

The school district also came under fire as the illicit relationships between students and the teacher was rumored to be common knowledge.

“Who is Ms. Altice sleeping with now?” many often reportedly joked.
