The “Stand Your Ground” law is back in the news again.

Vietnam veteran Ralph Wald, 70, was able to use the controversial law to help him get acquitted for shooting and killing 32-year-old Walter Conley after he discovered him having sex with his wife.

Wald walked in on Conley having sex with his 41-year-old wife, Johnna Lynn Flores. The veteran testified that he shot Conley because he didn’t feel he would be able to beat the younger man in a fight and because he thought Flores was being raped.

Flores had previously told Wald that she didn’t enjoy sex because of childhood abuse which was what led him to believe she was being raped.

“She couldn’t be having sex and be comfortable. I knew if she was having sex, someone was forcing her. These things were logical,” Wald said.

Prosecutors argued that Conley and Ward were “well acquainted” and that Ward should have known his wife was not being raped. Assistant State Attorney Chris Moody implied that the shooting was intentional and that Ward’s jealousy over his wife sleeping with a younger man led him to kill, The Inquisitr reported.

“It’s a personal insult to conduct that kind of activity in a man’s home, his castle. It cuts to the quick. It’s brazen … That kind of deep and personal insult, when you find another man having sex in your living room and you can’t, would make you want to lash out. And he did,” Moody said in his closing argument.

After Ward was acquitted by the jury, he left the courthouse with Flores by his side.

“My husband forgives me 100 percent. But there are of course, trust issues, that’s something we’re gonna go to counseling about, which we should have done prior to getting married, but, uh, we’re gonna work through it, I wouldn’t give that man up for the world,” Flores said.

She added: “Because my husband puts me first, he’s taking me to the Waffle House.”
