A Palm Beach, Florida, teacher was arrested and charged after police caught her, partially clothed, in a car with marijuana and a male student.

According to reports, police were responding to a report on Wednesday evening of suspicious behavior in a car when they discovered 45-year-old Mavericks High School Principal Krista Morton with her shirt unbuttoned and marijuana in her possession. An 18-year-old student was reportedly in the car with her.

“The caller was unsure but thought that there were people in the back seat engaged in some sort of sexual activity or being attacked,” a police spokesperson said, according to WFLA.

When officers knocked on the car door, Morton opened it and immediately told them that the two were “just friends.”

“She continued to tell me that she had just met him, that she was lonely, she had just picked him up down the street and brought him here to get to know him,” one of the responding officers said. The student, however, subsequently admitted to police that Morton was his principal.

A search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and a bag of marijuana, and an arrest report stated that officers were able to smell “the odor of fresh burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.”

Both Morton and the student were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. Morton was released on Thursday, though the student remains in jail on $1,000 bond.
