Police Officer Rescues Choking Woman During Traffic Stop (Video)

Police Officer Dustin Clinkscales was on patrol in Austin, Texas, on the evening of July 5 when he pulled a woman over for apparently trying to use a cellphone while driving (video below).

Clinkscales quickly realized something was amiss. "Are you OK? Are you choking?” he asked before performing the Heimlich maneuver, NBC DFW reported. The entire rescue was caught on video.

After several attempts, the chicken biscuit became dislodged, allowing the woman to breathe again. The lack of air caused the woman to faint, but Clinkscales caught her before she hit the floor. She was later transported to a nearby hospital, KXAN reported.

Clinkscales is being praised for his quick thinking. Austin-Travis County EMS Capt. Holly Craghead has written a letter of commendation, where she credited Clinkscales for saving the woman’s life. "Had it not been for the quick and exact actions of Officer Clinkscales, the patient would have most certainly had a negative outcome,” she wrote.

Although he didn't know it at the time, the woman Clinkscales saved is the daughter of his colleague, Detective Damon Dunn.

“My daughter she’s very thankful,” he said. “She says she’s lucky he was there.”
