Rayvond Williams, 21, is accused of leaving a 2-year-old boy in scalding hot water; as a result, the toddler suffered from serious burns and his skin “peeled off," police say.

Investigators with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in Florida believe Williams dunked the toddler in hot water for more than five minutes after the boy wet the bed, according to WESH. Doctors said that the boy was forcefully submerged in scalding water, causing burns on his arms, hands, legs, backside and genitalia. The toddler also had scratches on his face and head, according to World Wide Weird News.

Williams told police that the burns were an accident and that the toddler changed the water temperature on his own, The Palm Beach Post reported. Williams was babysitting the child at the time.

Williams has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse, although he has since been released from jail after posting bond.

Police have not released Williams' relationship to the child.
