A Fontana, California, man was arrested after a body was found in his backyard — prompting police to investigate its possible connection to the disappearance of a San Diego woman.
According to KTLA, 40-year-old Cesar Rosales was arrested without bail after police found a body in Rosales’s backyard following a missing persons investigation.
An earlier statement from police identified the body as 27-year-old Alejandra Carrion Gutierrez, who had gone missing on Jan. 2. Authorities later retracted the statement, saying that the “identity and gender of the body is still pending,” reported KTLA.

“During the interview, Rosales admitted to the homicide and burying the body in his yard,” the release said, according to KTLA.
One week after Gutierrez’s family reported her missing, her car was found in Fontana. She hadn’t been heard from since Dec. 31, 2015, reported KTLA.
Police spokeswoman Martha Guzman-Hurtado told KTLA that the information reported in the initial news release could no longer be confirmed.
