Police: Louisiana Dad Jeremiah Lee Wright Decapitates Son

| by Mark Berman Opposing Views

A disturbing story out of Louisiana, where a man is accused of decapitating his own son, and leaving the head by the side of the road for the mother to find.

The Daily Comet of Thibodaux, Louisiana reports that Jeremiah Lee Wright told police he did it because he got tired of taking care of seven-year-old Jori Lirette, who had cerebral palsy, was confined to a wheelchair and required a feeding tube.

"He said when he put his head out by the side of the road it was so the mother would see it when she came by," Thibodaux Police Chief Scott Silverii told the Associated Press. "He wanted her to feel stupid when she saw the head."

The mother did not find her son's head -- a passing driver did and called police. The rest of the body was in a garbage bag near the head.

The mother, Jesslyn Lirette, called Wright the "devil" who took her "angel" away. She said she and Wright have been living together for ten years.

The New York Daily News reports that a friend of Wright's said he was angry because Lirette would leave the house, leaving him to take care of the boy most of the time.

"She would take off and totally expect Jerry to do everything," he said.

Lirette denied the accusation.

Wright is charged with first-degree murder, and faces the possible death penalty if convicted.
