Milwaukee Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting 5-Year-Old Boy In Walgreens Bathroom

| by Lauren Briggs

Milwaukee police said on Aug. 12 they have found and arrested a 29-year-old man who they believe sexually assaulted a 5-year-old boy in a Walgreens bathroom, reports WSAU.

Authorities said that after they released a series of the surveillance photos of the suspect’s face, taken at the Walgreens drugstore on Capitol Drive, the public gave tips that helped officers make a speedy arrest.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office will review the case within the next few days.

At approximately 6:25 p.m. on Aug. 9, authorities say the suspect followed an unsupervised young boy into the restroom of the drugstore and sexually assaulted him.

Immediately after the assault, the boy left the bathroom and told his parents what the suspect had done, but by then the man had already left the store, reports CBS 58.

Local police got involved and worked with probation and parole officers to identify the man, whose name has not yet been released. It is unknown whether he has assaulted other children before, although police say that there is no evidence linking him with other similar crimes at this time.

Officials believe the man did not know the family and did not interact with anybody else in the store on that day.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett called the incident a random but terrible crime, reports Fox 6 Now. After authorities released the surveillance photos, Barrett said: “Take a look at that picture,” he said. “Let’s catch this guy.”

Barrett added that he is praying for the young victim.

Milwaukee police reminded parents to be extra cautious when out with children.

“Always keep an eye on your kids,” Milwaukee Police Captain Aimee Obregon said. “Always know where they are. If there is someone when you`re in the store who looks suspicious, report them to security.”
